What flowering and fragrant plants would you recommend for a shady area under the eaves of my home? I am also looking for a low maintenance with colorful, "showy" flowers.

Some of the more fragrant shade loving plants include Violets, Phlox, Jasmine, Lotus, Nicotiana, Lily of the Valley, Mock Orange, Mexican Orange and Angel's Trumpet. Plants with especially showy flowers include Columbine, Begonia, Campanula, Kaffir Lily, Gentian, Helleborus, Impatiens, Pansy, Primrose and Asiatic Lilies. Be sure to prepare the soil well prior to planting by incorporating lots of organic matter to help your new plants thrive.
