| Bonsai trees are normal trees (or occasionally other types of plants) which have been literally dwarfed over time by growing them in tiny pots; they are also painstakingly trained and pruned into special shapes. Some bonsai trees are quite ancient and have been cared for by generations of gardeners. The care and grooming of bonsai is a fascinating hobby.
