The Q&A Archives: Growing Peppers in Containers

Question: I have been growing tomatoes in containers this summer with great success, and have just been given a bell pepper plant (California Wonder, I think). I would like some information about growing this successfully in a container. How large should the container be? At what depth should the pepper be planted? Do they like full sun? Lots of water? Will it need staking?

Answer: Container size: 5 gallon or bigger. Depth of planting: As it was in the original pack or pot. Sun likes: Absolutely full sun (8 hours +). Watering: Good soakings for even moisture in the beginning, less as flowers begin to mature. Staking: None, unless you live in a very windy area.
