I would like to offer lily-of-the-valley bulbs (or pips, what are pips?) as favors at my September 5th wedding. The wedding will be in East Aurora (Buffalo-area) N.Y.

If I order bulbs now would they be good then? If not, can I order bulbs later?

I am incorporating this favorite flower of mine into many aspects of my wedding. Please offer any suggestions about favors (I can't afford to give away bouquets of live ones!)

What a lovely idea!

Lily of the Valley is often offered as pips -- in layman's terms these are little rooty bulb things -- The pips are in essence live plants and as such are offered seasonally, so you would need to order for fall planting. To discuss with Burpee whether or not this is feasible, you might wish to contact Burpee Customer Service directly at 1-800-333-5808. To be honest the pips are not very attractive, so you will need to come up with some packaging for them to look nice.

Some additional ideas for favors might include Lily-of-the-Valley scented soaps and sachets or copies of a poem mentioning Lily-of- the-Valley. Good luck with your plans!
