I live in zone 5 and I grow cut flowers.I would like to grow a greenery or maybe ferns to mix in my cut flowers. Can you help me locate anything like this? |
Ferns are a traditional accompaniment to bouquets but unfortunately most ferns grow quite slowly and don't lend themselves to frequent harvesting. However, one hardy fern which does spread and grow more quickly (and in fact can become invasive) yet appears delicate is the hay-scented fern, Dennstaedtia punctiloba. Other greeneries you might experiment with are hosta foliage (a different texture) and perhaps the quick growing houseplant "asparagus fern" (Asparagus densiflorous 'Sprengeri'). One source for a variety of hardy ferns is Shady Oaks Nursery http://www.shadyoaks.com/home.... or 800-504-8006. The asparagus fern is commonly available almost anywhere houseplants are sold -- from garden centers to grocery stores. Good luck with your greenery! |
