My yucca plants are over grown for the size of my yard. How do I cut them back so they will be smaller?

Yuccas grow wider each year as the older crowns die out and the younger crowns expand and develop new crowns around them. It is a bit difficult to control their diameter, but one way is to grub out the crowns at the base of the plant, working from the edge inward toward the center of the clump. With regard to overall height, there is no way I know of to prune them with the exception of removing the flowering stems.
