We have a Mountain Ash tree in our yard and each year the woodpeckers continually peck at it and severely damage the bark. I realize they are after insects that are in the tree. Is there a spray or some way to get rid of these insects?

Mountain Ash are subject to several insect pests, including borers and sawflies, which severely damage the tree. Unfortunately I can't specifically identify the insect long distance, but your County Extension (486-3350) might be able to as well as suggest appropriate controls.
