Some of my Cannas last year produced black seeds around the size of a bean.My
question is: what is the best way to germinate them? Soak, score,or just plant? I have
always grown them from the tuber or splitting the tuber and am clueless with the seeds.

According to the Thompson and Morgan Successful Seed Raising Guide (now out of print) the seed should be planted a quarter of an inch deep in peaty soil in late winter or spring at a soil temperature of 70 to 75 degrees and germination takes 21 to 60 days. No special treatment is noted beyond the warm damp soil. Have fun with your seeds!
