Some of my Cannas last year produced black seeds around the size of a bean.My question is: what is the best way to germinate them? Soak, score,or just plant? I have always grown them from the tuber or splitting the tuber and am clueless with the seeds. |
According to the Thompson and Morgan Successful Seed Raising Guide (now out of print) the seed should be planted a quarter of an inch deep in peaty soil in late winter or spring at a soil temperature of 70 to 75 degrees and germination takes 21 to 60 days. No special treatment is noted beyond the warm damp soil. Have fun with your seeds! |
