I want to plant a rather large area in nepeta faassenii, too large for the purchase of separate plants to be affordable. Where can I find seeds or else much smaller plant starts of this variety?

The true Nepeta x faassenii is a sterile hybrid, so you will have to purchase plants. Some of the perennial specialists such as Bluestone Perennials (1-800-852-5243) may offer smaller plants. As an alternative, you might consider purchasing a few and then propagating your own by division.
