How many hours of artificial light is necessary for seeds like impatiens to germinate and then to grow before putting outside? |
Plants do not need special lighting at the germination stage (meaning ordinary bright but indirect household lighting will do), but as soon as the seeds germinate the plants should be placed under bright light such as a fluorescent light. Keep the plants within 1 - 2 inches of the bulbs, and keep the light on for 14 to 16 hours a day. Many gardeners use a timer to activate the lights on a regular schedule because it is easy to forget to turn them on (or off!). |
