I checked the archives and didn't find an answer that aptly applied. I have a small area on north side of house, slightly sloping, under a fruitless mulberry, where grasses struggle. I'm thinking of a carpet-like ground cover that will withstand lots of foot traffic. Dappled sun most of the time.

To be honest, most groundcovers will not withstand lots of foot traffic, so an alternative suggestion might be to install a path or stepstones with groundcover on both sides. You might try mazus reptans which is about the sturdiest under foot traffic, although it does prefer a moist soil. Other possibilities are the smaller perennial geraniums or one of the ajugas as the groundcover.
