The Q&A Archives: Gardenia Pruning

Question: My gardenia is getting leggy. How and when can I prune it back, if at all. I know how tempermental they can be.

Answer: Prune it back after it blooms in the spring to summer. Cut the leggy shoots back to just within the rest of the shrub canopy. This will give it time to regrow shoots and set buds for next season's blooms.
