| I have two maple trees (Aceraceae) in my backyard, great shade trees but a pain when it comes to the wing like seeds they drop all summer long. Last year I had one of them pruned back in the fall so it would not interfere with the house. Some of the branches were ten inches in diameter. The following summer, no seeds!! Of course this summer the seeds are back. My guess is that the tree produced some sort of enzyme to inhibited seed production so that all the energy could be channeled to the healing process. Do you know if there is such an enzyme, or whatever, that is available, or easily whipped up in the basement laboratory. I would like to stop the seeds once and for all! |
| Based on your description it would seem the seeds were not produced because the "blooming" wood was removed the previous fall. Although sprays are occasionally used in specific instances to stop certain trees from blooming or fruiting (eg urban gingkos) I am not aware of any that would be available for homeowner use on maples. You can be certain that if it were available many homeowners would be in line to purchase it! |
