There are two recipes for preserving cut flowers. Mix 1 teaspoon bleach and one tablespoon sugar into a gallon of water, or add one cup of 7-Up (or other clear softdrink) to 1/2 gallon of water. Use either mixture in place of water in a vase of cut flowers. The acid slows bacterial growth and the sugar provides nutrients to the flowers, helping them stay fresher longer.
