The Q&A Archives: Unicorn Plant Or Devils Claw

I recently aquired a package of seeds from our county extension office. The seeds are idenified as Devil's Claw or Unicorn Plant. I have looked in books for this plant or seed and cannot find it. If you have heard of it please let me know.

Answer: To be honest, I had never heard of either one. After some research, I did find a few things. Unicorn Plant is known botanically as Proboscidea. Strangely, "Proboscidea" is also the name of the order of mammals that includes Asian and African elephants....go figure! I learned this plant is semi-carnivorous - what an interesting little seed you have there:
