You can grow nearly any kind of plant in containers, from fruit trees and tropicals to bulbs, herbs and vegetables, if you select the right varieties. You might consider some of the currently popular plants with a tropical look such as cannas, callas, caladiums, elephant ears and sweet potato vines or some of the old fashioned flowering vines such as moonflower, cardinal climber and asarina. You might consider edibles such as tomatoes, cucumbers and beans trained to a trellis or perhaps bushy forms of the same. There are many vegetable varieties bred for small space and container gardening, too. Most annuals do well in containers as do many of the culinary herbs. I hope this gives you some ideas.
