The Q&A Archives: Using Chemically-Treated Lawn Clippings as Mulch

Question: Is it safe to use the grass clipping as mulch in your vegetable garden if you have a lawn care service your yard? They use dry chemicals. Debby Beas Brunswick, OH

Answer: It all depends on the herbicides... the lawn care service is using. You can get a list from them and research or, to be on the safe side, I'd say probably don't use the clippings. Some herbicides and insecticides used on lawns can contain toxic ingredients that are not safe to use on vegetables or fruits.
