Butterflies need nectar sources and larval food sources. Nectar sources are most effective planted in masses so that the butterflies can discover them more easily. Some popular nectar plants would include purple cone flower, verbena bonariensis, lantana, marigolds, gloriosa daisies and lavender as well as the ever popular butterfly bush (buddleia). Some popular larval food sources include milkweed and butterfly weed (asclepias), parsley, fennel, Queen Anne's Lace and Virginia creeper.
