The Q&A Archives: Is Spaghetti Squash a Winter or Summer Squash

Question: I'm planting spaghetti squash this year. Is spaghetti squash a summer or winter squash? With regard to cultivation and storage, should I treat it like yellow crook-neck or like butternut squash? Richard Dickerson Memphis, TN

Answer: Spaghetti squash is a winter squash and should be treated like a butternut. Like many winter squash it needs room to ramble. Harvest when the skin color turns tannish and let it cure for a few weeks in a cool basement before eating.
