Your perennial Lobelia's will produce new stems in the spring so cut back all the old foliage and stems now to make room for new growth. Next year, after a killing frost, cut the foliage down to the ground and remove it from the garden. If you leave old plant parts in the garden, they provide hiding places for insects and can harbor disease. Good garden sanitation in the fall months is an important part of growing healthy plants in the spring and summer.
