| Forsythia can be rooted so easily from a cutting, some people have found that their forced forsythia branches have rooted in the vase! To root it on purpose, follow standard procedures for spring cuttings using a freshly cut piece of branch tip and a smallish clean pot. Take a cutting about six to eight inches long, remove the foliage from the end that will be under the soil, and place it upright into barely damp sand or soilless mix about half in and half out. Some gardeners will dip the cut end in rooting hormone but it is not strictly necessary. Firm the soil around it. Now enclose the pot in a clear plastic bag to maintain constant humidity and moisture, and place it in a bright place out of direct sunlight. Your cutting should root in a matter of weeks. Tug on it gently to check. |
