The Q&A Archives: Quick Groundcovers

Question: Are kudzu seeds available? Also, would they spread in the New York region once planted? I am interested in it for quick ground cover and privacy. Carol Gratz Lockport, NY

Answer: I don't think kudzu is hardy in New York, and even if it was, you wouldn't want it. It is a very invasive ground cover and will literally swallow your yard! For a fast growing and aggressive ground cover try Aegopodium (Bishops weed). It also is veryinvasive, but fills in quickly. Just don't plant neat any prize beds or they will be run over eventually. For climbing vines try Boston Ivy or Virginia Creeper on a fence or wall.
