The Q&A Archives: Deterring Earwigs from Flowers

Question: How can I keep earwigs from eating my flowers? Rebecca Sauers Streator, IL

Answer: Earwigs love dark, wet conditions, so remove any mulch and thin out your plantings to let the sun and dryness in. This will discourage them. Also, if you have any old rotten wood around, remove that. For sprays, I'd try pyrethrum on the plants at first sign of damage. Earwigs would rather eat decaying wood, so by removing any mulch and wood, you should see a dramatic improvement.
