Is late March too late to prune crepe myrtles in northeast Mississippi? What will happen if I don't at least get off the old bloom heads? |
The best time is prior to the emergence of new growth in early spring. You can, however still prune the plants if you wish. Unpruned crepe myrtles will continue to grow and bloom fine. Pruning removes some of the twiggy growth and promotes more vigorous regrowth, but is not necessary for the plant to perform. |
