Seedling Temperature - Knowledgebase Question

I have started some tomato plants in my cellar under 4 ft. flourescent lights. I have the lights
on from 6 am to 10 pm . The plants are 1 inch high. They say once true leaves are formed
the plants should be in a cool place at night. What should the temperature be at night time
in the cellar for the roots to develop and have a good stalk.

Once they have germinated, most annual seedlings grow nicely at a temperature a bit cooler than the normal room, say 60 or 65 degrees and a bit cooler at night but tomatoes and some of the other warm season vegetables are sensitive to cold so they don't necessarily require colder nights. In fact, turning off the lights at night will result in a slight temperature decrease already.You might wish to look at the following article called
