I want to know how to propagate pine trees. If you can do it from the pine cone, what are the steps to ensure success? |
You can collect the seeds from mature pine cones to sow. The seeds need a pre-chill treatment prior to germination and benefit from an overnight soaking. When you're ready to begin the process, soak your seeds overnight, then mix them with moistened growing medium and seal in a plastic bag. Refrigerate for about 6 weeks, then remove the seeds and plant them on the surface of moistened seed starting mix in trays or pots. Press them into the soil surface and cover the trays or pots with plastic wrap to help hold in moisture. The seeds will germinate in 30-60 days when kept at 55F - 65F degrees. |
