Last year, I grew pumpkins for the first time. After a couple months of good growth, the leaves started to wilt during the daytime hours, and then spring to life again at night. I didn't have much success with the pumpkins, so is this wilting a problem? I believe I did everything I was supposed to do. Could this have been a pest problem?

Based on your description it is hard to make a diagnosis. You might find the following two web sites helpful, though. The first provides pictures and descriptions of a number of problems that can affect pumpkins, including late season vine collapse. The second provides some similar information and additional photographs.
