I have a weeping cherry tree that I brought home last spring and planted next to my deck. In the fall of last year,I noticed at the base of the tree what looked like (gumball sized) balls of hardened sap.About 4 of them. Is that what it is, sap? If so, why, and is this something to worry about? |
What you are describing can happen for a number of reasons including injury (such as tree trimmer) or possibly borer damage, or possibly bacterial canker, but based on your description I can't give you a definite diagnosis. You might wish to consult with your County Extension (433-6731) for a more exact indentification of the problem and suggested controls, if any. |
