You can use a balanced, all purpose granular fertilizer according to the application rate in the label instructions (usually about two or three cups per 100 square feet). You might also wish to add several inches of organic matter such as compost, rotted leaves, or well aged manure and bedding to help improve the soil structure. Ideally, you should run some basic soil tests to find out exactly what your soil does (or doesn't) need and to check the pH. Your County Extension (285-8300) should be able to help you with the tests and interpreting the results.
