I have had excellent results using the Wall 'O Water method for my tomatoes. However the directions are unclear as to whether the "walls" should be left up or removed when the temperatures are warm. When I have removed the "walls" the plants have not been strong enough to sustain themselves. Perhaps somehow a cage should be put inside the "walls". |
Good suggestion! The Wall 'O Water is designed to hold and radiate heat to help the plants grow in the early spring. You should remove the Wall 'O Water from the plant when the nighttime temperatures remain above 50F degrees. Tomato plants often need staking or caging, whether or not you use the Wall 'O Water as a season extender. When you remove it, just place two stakes next to the plants and tie to support, or place a tomato cage over each plant to help support it. |
