The Q&A Archives: Effects of Sounds on Plant Growth

Question: Is it true that sound affects plant growth? Do you have any information about that? Thank you. Alessandro Couto Torrance, CA

Answer: I have heard (no pun intended) that sound can influence the growth of plants. Specifically classical music makes plants grow faster than say Rock and Roll music. There have been some scientific studies done on this reaction, but I don't have them at hand. It's probably best to try your own experiment, measure the growth of two similar plants influenced by different types of music and see what happens.
