OK! What am I doing wrong? I have various Rose Bushes in front of my house. Feed them, prune them and yes talk to them. But they are still scrawny and few flowers. ps...occasionally aphids, but deal with them. |
There are several common reasons for scrawny roses: poor soil preparation prior to planting is probably the most common. The next most common is lack of sunlight. Most roses really need full sun all day but will tolerate six hours and subsist on less. After that, the choice of variety can make a big difference. Some of them are just not all that vigorous. Finally, pruning and feeding and regular watering are all important for best performance. For some tips on selection, planting and care you might want to take a look at a book I particularly like, "Roses for Dummies" by Lance Walheim, ISBN 0-7645-5031-4. |
