The Q&A Archives: Onion and Jalepe o Yields

Question: How many pounds of peppers will an average jalapeno plant yield? How many pounds of onions will an average red onion plant yield? John Chizer Indianapolis, IN

Answer: All things being equal, if your jalapenoes grow well and produce about 50 fruits (great yeild!) per plant, it would be about 5 pounds of peppers. This is a rough estimate and many factors such as variety, fertility, weather and plant health will influence their performance. A red onion commonly grows to between 1/2 and one pound per plant, again depending on the growing conditions. I hope this helps as rough guidelines.
