How do I build a compost heap? Also I recently had some Georgia pines cut down and the stumps were ground down can the chips from the stumps go into a compost heap?

The chips can be composted but it will take a long time. I would suggest you pile them somewhere to allow them to age a year or so and then use them as a surface mulch in ornamental beds. Or you could use them as a pathway material.

Regarding composting, I think the best way to answer your question is to refer you to the following web site. Although designed for kids, it is an excellent tutorial on composting for us kids of all ages!
