Piper nigrum is the botanical name of the plant that produces peppercorns which are ground into black pepper. The plants grow in the tropics and have exacting requirements, making them almost impossible to grow elsewhere, even under greenhouse conditions. For this reason, plants of Piper nigrum are very difficult to obtain. Seeds are available, however, from Rainforest Seed Co., Box 241, San Jose 1017, Costa Rica.
