I have been asked to design and plant my parents garden. They recently bought a cottage on the Jersey shore. The property borders a protected bay. Could you please provide me with a list of plants that can stand some salt water flooding.

Few plants can withstand flooding, especially with salt water, and survive, but these plants are best adapted to seashore locations. Rosa rugosa, Beach plum, Japanese black pine, Russian olive, Tamarix, Eastern cedar and Shore juniper should survive salty, sandy conditions. Check with local nurseryamn also who have experience with seashore gardening.
