My hydrangeas are rooting from the bottom branches into the surrounding soil. Should I pull these out of the soil and remove the roots? or should I let them stay? |
This is not harmful to the plant, so what to do is up to you. In one sense the roots will help the plant take up moisture and nutrients, in another sense the rooting can also help the plant spread larger than it already is. Another thought would be allow these branches to gain some root and size and then separate them from the parent plant and transplant them to their own growing spots. This type of propagation is called layering. |
