Is there anything short of destroying a neigborhood pet that has become a garden digger? Large Alaskan huskie has taken up digging large holes in my garden. I have tried several over the counter solutions that don't work. Does anyone know how to control this pet which has become a beast.

The key is to train the dog not to dig. Since it's not your pet, you may have difficulty controlling it, let alone teaching it manners. If you can place a barrier between the soil and the dog, it may stop coming over to dig. Try placing chicken wire over the bare soil to discourage digging, or stringing wire or nylon fishing line between stakes that you've placed around your garden beds. Both these solutions create temporary barriers to your garden beds, which may eventually break the dog's habit of running through the beds and digging.
