Question: We planted Burpee Black-Seeded Lettuce about 3 weeks ago, about 3-4 tall now in tight compacted row, how do we thin out when all plants look great.The package says spacing of 6-8 ... John Hice West Palm Beach, FL

Answer: You have to be merciless if you want nice size lettuce heads. Thin away and eat the 3-4 sized thinnings in a salad. Just leave the healthiest seedlings and be sure the spacing is at least 6-8 apart.
