Squirrels can be a real pest, and unfortunately short of caging in your garden they will play in it at will. (In my experience the activity level decreases somewhat once they have finished digging up their overwintered hoardings). Some gardeners report that a pet dog or cat can act as an effective deterrent, and others report success using repellent sprays. You might try a commercial spray such as "Get Away Squirrel and Raccoon Repellent" which is available from Burpee (800-888-1447) or some of the home made garlic or pepper based concoctions.
