I live in the city and would like to grow tomatoes.(sounds simple enough) The question is, where I live, someone thought it was a good idea to plant a running type of bamboo. Will that interfere with my tomato plants?

Bamboo should have no effect on tomatoes, unless of course the plants provide too much shade over the tomato patch. I'd reconsider planting bamboo, except in controlled patches, in contained areas. Running bamboo can get out of hand quite rapidly and is almost impossible to eradicate once it gets a foothold!
