| We're trying to grow peanuts for the first time. Our garden is tiered. Water from the first tier typically runs down to the second (lower) tier, thus, the second tier is usually more moist than the first. Which tier do you recommend planting the peanuts in? So far, we've had great success with all our vegetables on both tiers. |
| Peanuts are fun to grow! When the plants are about 1' tall, long pointed pegs will grow from faded flowers. They will grow down into the soil, which is where a peanut will form. The pegs penetrate 1"-3" deep, so make sure the soil is light and loose. One inch of water per week is plenty for peanuts, so grow them on the top tier. Peanut plants are legumes and will manufacture their own nitrogen, so don't add any nitrogen fertilizers to the top tier or you'll end up with lots of foliage and very few flowers. |
