The Q&A Archives: Pruning Evergreens

Question: We've read that the best time to prune evergreen shrubs is in the spring. However, they have several dead branches now. Is it OK to trim the dead branches now, or should we wait until spring? Thanks. Dave

Answer: Trim away! Anytime you have dead or diseased branches you should remove them. Cut the branches back to a main stem and make a lean cut at an angle to help the water shed and make it less likely to get infected..
