I have a south facing covered patio which looks out on to a concrete deck and pool. It gets hot in the late summer (105) at times and is always bright from the reflection of the deck and pool. I want to have some hanging baskets at the front eave of the patio. Everything I have tried does well until late in the summer when it all cooks.

Is there anything I can use in these hanging baskets that can withstand this?

I'd try trailing Sedums in baskets, or Sunrose, Lantana, Rosemary, Creeping Thyme, Gaillardia, Linum, Salvia or Russian Sage. The reflected heat and light complicates the problem of droughty conditions in hanging baskets with the exposure you describe. Try watering twice each day during the hottest summer months to refresh the plants and keep the roots from overheating. You might also try planting in pots and placing the pots in the hanging baskets, surrounding them with additional potting mix or sphagnum moss to act as insulation against the hot sun. Hope these suggestions help!
