Amaryllis Belladonna Source - Knowledgebase Question

I am looking for a source for the Amaryllis
Belladonna bulb. I have looked all over
the Phoenix area and also called all the major
local nurseries, and nobody I have spoken to
knows what this bulb is (most of them think
they do, but nobody has one).

The majority of bulbs are planted in the fall when temperatures have cooled off here in the low desert, so few nurseries will carry any stock in late April. Many people confuse A. Belladonna with the Hippeastrum, which is available before the December holidays and commonly called Amaryllis. If you haven't already, you might try asking for it by common names, such as Belladonna Lady, or Naked Ladies.
