The Q&A Archives: Outdoor Flower Pots

Question: I would like to learn how to select and arrange the proper flowers for outdoor pots and small boxes. Is there a website with this type of information or names of books.

Answer: There are two references that I consider indispensible: "Container Gardening for Dummies", published by IDG Books, ISBN# 0-7645-5057-8, and Sunset Western Garden Book, published by Sunset, ISBN# 0-376-03851-9. The first lists suitable plants, what to look for in containers and pots, how to water and fertilize, and how to avoid problems. The second reference has a special section on gardening in containers plus an encyclopedic listing of plants that grow well in the western states. Either or both will provide all the information you'll need to get started on your project.
