Is it too late to plant lettuce in Mississippi? (or too early?) Are there any lettuces that do well in containers? Thanks!

It is too late. When the days begin to get longer, which they are now, lettuce is stimulated to bolt (send up a seed stalk). It then ceases to produce more leaves and the existing leaves are too bitter to be tasty.

Wait until the weather cools down in fall to plant lettuce. Your County Extension Office (phone 601-841-9000) most likely has some free information of when to plant veggies in your area.

Regarding container growing, all lettuces do well in containers. For best results, use a container that holds at least one gallon of soil.
