The Q&A Archives: Sunflowers for attracting birds

Question: What type of sunflowers would be most likely to attract Cardinals and Bluejays? Bob Burkert St Louis, MO

Answer: I'm not a bird expert but I know the black-oil sunflower seeds used as bird seed usually come from the Mammoth Russian varieties of sunflowers. I think a hungry bird will eat any sunflower seed, I'd stay away from any of the ornamental sunflowers.
