My potted petunias are setting many flower buds, but the buds are drying up and withering before ever opening. The plants look very healthy otherwise. There are six plants in a 12-inch pot, watered every other day, in partial shade. Any suggestions?

Petunias grow best in full sunshine, so perhaps your plants are not getting the amount of direct sunlight they need to perform to their full potential. Try moving the pot to an area that gets all-day, or at least all-afternoon sunshine. Once they're exposed to the perfect conditions they'll open their buds, producing glorious blooms.
