| I have several bloodflower mature milkweed plants in my garden. They have seed pods on them. What is the best why to use these seeds for new startings? |
| Bloodflower Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) seeds generally need a pre-chill period before they will germinate. Collect the seed pods, and remove the outer pod. Then mix the seeds together with moistened growing medium, seal in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 3 weeks. Remove the seeds and sow on the surface of moistened seed starting mix. Just barely press them in (seeds need light to germinate). Cover the trays or pots with plastic wrap to help hold in moisture, then place in a warm area such as on top of the refrigerator. Viable seeds will germinate in 30-90 days. |
